Interior and tile trends are moving faster than ever! Not only are we travelling back in time with retro colours and shapes, from classic Terrazzo to the wildest confetti tiles, but the graphic shapes and patterns of the 1990s are also making a comeback. At Designtegels, we add distinctive, creative, on-trend shapes, materials and colours to our collection throughout the year. Curious about the newcomers for 2023? Here is a little preview of what is to come.

Terrazzo. A calm foundation, old-school or made from sustainable materials?
In 2022, the Terrazzo trend emerged at lightning speed and these tiles stole our hearts, so you will be seeing plenty of them in 2023 too. Alongside the classic black-and-white version, the trend is continuing with distinctive colours and playful granules. More and more unusual Terrazzo tiles are also coming onto the market. Have you heard of our Terrazzo made from pieces of glass? Super sustainable and with an even more distinctive look!

KitKat tiles. Perfect for combining with rounded shapes
Have you seen them yet? The new trend: KitKat tiles. Long, narrow tiles placed next to one another, especially popular in Japandi interiors. These little tiles usually come on a flexible mesh sheet, making them particularly suitable for tiling curved walls. KitKat tiles are available in a range of materials, including marble, ceramic or a single tile. Depending on the room in which you place them, there is always one that will look its best, whether on the wall or floor.

Giga marble and natural stone prints. Ceramic but indistinguishable from the real thing!
Is your taste sleek and minimalist? Then you have probably already noticed the large slabs, or enormous tiles. These ceramic tiles are available in sizes from 60x60 up to 320x320. Standard prints of stone, marble, concrete and metallic effects are now indistinguishable from the real thing and can turn your bathroom into a true showpiece. In 2023, we will see even more natural materials in this category. Not just in a single colour, but also in distinctive deep colours, gemstone patterns or with relief for a real focal point, as well as textures combined with natural materials.

Wall tiles with relief. An extra dimension in a range of textures
We have been seeing texture in wallpaper and paint for some time now. It adds extra warmth and depth to a wall. Tiles with relief, texture or even a 3D effect are certain to become more popular in 2023. A good example is the Stripe tile, which has been extremely popular for some time. It looks like a collection of small tiles, but is actually one large tile, making it very easy to install and clean. With handmade tiles, you can also feel and see the texture of the material.

Sustainable marble, soft colours for the floor or distinctive colours in graphic mosaics
When you think of mosaics, you probably do not think of this version! These small pieces are cut to size from marble, in various shapes, and assembled on a mesh sheet. This allows you to create the trendiest graphic shapes. In fact, the sky is the limit! The new trend in marble mosaics is KitKat, but the distinctive shape of Solare is just as fashionable, as is a graphic design such as Diamond. Do you prefer soft, calm shapes and colours? Then take a look at the Marmer Bricks: beautiful in their texture and appearance, and available in distinctive marble colours.

Moroccan Zelliges, Bejmat and Platta’s. Something for everyone.
Last but not least: Moroccan tiles. They are certainly not “new” in 2023, as they have been around for several years. This is hardly surprising, of course, because these distinctive handmade tiles remain a real focal point and are now an essential feature of kitchens and bathrooms. These tiles are also being experimented with: think of different shapes such as KitKat (on mesh sheets). More and more rounded shapes are also becoming available, suitable for floors too, and the colour palette is continuing to expand.
