Discover the charm of Terrazzo
Terrazzo is a timeless classic! This beautiful, authentic tile type is known from the Art Deco era, when hallways were filled with concrete and small marble pieces. At Designtegels.nl we have various types of Terrazzo — ceramic and real Terrazzo.
Whether you choose wall or floor, Terrazzo tiles bring style and character to every room. They radiate classic charm in the hallway or bathroom, add a refined touch to the kitchen worktop and provide a stylish base in the toilet.
Production of Terrazzo
The production of terrazzo tiles combines traditional techniques with modern factory technology. Where everything used to be cast and finished by hand, advanced machines now ensure a more precise and efficient process. In the 1930s, the material was cast on site in moulds and then finished by hand. Today, modern technology and specialised production ensure a more precise and efficient process.
Production starts with the careful selection of aggregates such as marble, glass and other stone fragments. These are mixed with materials such as concrete and marble powder to form a strong terrazzo mix.
The composed mix is poured into moulds that determine the final shape of the tiles.
The filled moulds are pressed under high pressure, so that the aggregates are evenly distributed and the whole bonds well. This determines the strength and appearance of the tile.
