Zelliges

Zellige, the Moroccan wall tile with beautiful colour nuances

Are you looking for a special tile for your kitchen or bathroom wall? The Zellige is a unique tile in both shape and colour. The different colour nuances within a single colour create a beautiful play of colours on large surfaces. The shape, which is hand-cut, ensures that each tile is slightly different. Zellige gives your space an extra dimension with shape and colour. This Moroccan tile is a true work of art on your wall that you will never tire of looking at.

Zelliges, unique due to their handmade appearance

What makes Zellige so special? Zellige tiles have a combination of different characteristics that make them unique. In Fez, Morocco, a special type of clay is used that is only found there. Zelliges are formed by hand from this clay and dried in the sun. The tiles are then glazed with the most beautiful colours and baked in olive pit ovens. Depending on where the tile is placed in the oven, the colour will vary slightly. If you choose a different shape, the tiles are then individually hand-cut into these shapes. This process is still done with love and in the traditional way. Would you like to see a film about how Zellige tiles are made? Then watch the film: Making of Zellige and Bejmat.

Shapes and colours of Zellige

There are many types of Moroccan tiles, including Zellige, Bejmat and Platta. Zellige tiles are very popular and often featured in home decor magazines. Will you go for the square tiles measuring 10 x 10 cm, 5 x 5 cm, hexagon, triangle or perhaps the fish scale (poisson échelles) pattern? All these Zellige formats are suitable for use on the walls in your home. The sides are bevelled so that they can be laid tightly together without joints. The colours of Zellige tiles are unique and cannot be found in any other tile. Beautiful deep green shades, sky blue, warm pink or jet black. In short, Zellige is available in all colours of the rainbow. Are you looking for a floor tile with the same properties as Zellige? Then take a look at the Bejmat floor tile or the Platta in various shapes.

Would you like to see Zellige in real life? The colours of these Moroccan tiles are difficult to assess on a screen. That is why we have displayed all colours on boards in our showrooms in Breda and Utrecht. Here you can view all the colours that we show on the website. Would you like to view the tiles at home? You can order samples of the tile in different colours and shapes via the website. Never judge the colour of a Zellige tile based on a single tile. Zellige tiles have colour tones, not a fixed colour. Therefore, always make sure you see several tiles together for appropriate advice.

On our website, you will also find inspiration from projects and customers who have already used the tiles. See how the tiles look on a large surface and find the shade that best suits your style. The colour shade will adapt to the space in which you place it.
